Hi, I’m Tony Santos, I’m a writer and internet consultant. I also manage several successful blogs and sites.
I started BizwebResource in 2008, as a part-time consulting venture. It eventually became a full-time business in 2012.
Though we are fairly new, I’m a hard-core internet veteran. I have been doing sales and marketing for as long as I can remember. I started my first business when I was 17 years old (a T-shirt shop). Over the course of my young life, I have done every kind of sales gig there is. Whether it was electronics, office equipment or even real estate, sales has always been in my blood.
I have been working online since the early 1990’s. I first started marketing online “pre-web” in 1991 with my travel company, Destiny Travel Group. This was back before the “all-you-can-eat” days, when internet access was metered and painfully slow. Despite the vast limitations in the service and technology of that era, we managed to successfully market travel services and products on networks like Compuserve, AOL, and Prodigy.
Once the web emerged, I switched gears. I got out of the travel agency business, which thanks to the internet was now in rapid decline, and started an internet/online-marketing consultancy.
I saw the writing on the wall, that was where I needed to be. I started WorldMarket Services in Gainesville, Florida in 1994. At the risk of sounding cliche’, I launched it out of my 1-bedroom apartment. I moved the company and myself to Los Angeles, California in 1996. Within three short years, WorldMarket grew from a two-person operation to a company with 8 inside employees, and twice as many outside contractors.
Though we were a relatively small company, we managed to build a worldwide clientele. We also had our own in-house state-of-the-art data center right in Downtown Los Angeles, unheard of for such a small company during the “dot-com-boom” period. WorldMarket grew and evolved into a full service managed hosting/web development firm within just a few short years. It was acquired by a larger company in 2001. After that, I co-managed another hosting company based in Vancouver, until they too acquired my share in 2003.
I also ran a successful liquidation business alongside, which was actually started by accident. It thrived due to the vast amount of assets that hit the market after the “dot-com-bust”, and turned out to be incredibly lucrative, funny story.
After about eight years of “temporary retirement” to cruise around the Western Caribbean aboard my 50′ sloop, I decided that it was time to get back to my roots. Especially since the 2008 crash put a ding in my nest-egg!
But to be honest, the love for business has never really gotten out of my blood. Even during my so-called retirement, I found myself constantly being offered various writing and consulting projects by clients or colleagues who couldn’t seem to let go of me. I’d take on a project here or there. Especially the ones that looked like fun, and helped keep my boat maintenance paid up.
Now that the pressure to produce and manage a company was no longer an issue, I realized that I truly loved what I do. So here I am again!
Only this time, I vowed to do things differently. I look to take on projects that are more interesting and challenging. I also vowed to enjoy it more and fit it into my lifestyle, rather than the other way around.
See, I travel extensively, having visited over 60+ countries in just the last decade alone. Other than cruising my own boat for an extended time, it has always been my dream to be a true global citizen. And I wasn’t going to wait until I was “retirement age” to do it. I love the fact that I can work from anywhere, and I make the most out of that capability.
I started BizWebResource because I saw a clear need for specific services, talent and know-how by businesses of all sizes. It’s the kind of stuff that seriously increases the chances of success.
The fact is for virtually any business operating today, an effective online presence is no longer an option, it’s critical to survival. It means the difference between success and failure.
In my experience, the vast majority of companies and websites simply do it wrong, and it costs them dearly. It’s my mission to help some of them do it right.
My aim is clear: to give solid advice, let others benefit from my three-plus decades of experience, and to provide bottom-line value. I am also committed to providing the beneficial tools, products and services that will help businesses operate more efficiently and yes, profitably.
To me, increasing any business’ chances for success in this ever-changing online world is a worthy challenge.
Since making it through both the boom and bust times and seeing my own dreams come true, I have come to a realization. A great way to ‘pay it forward’ is by helping other business owners and professionals reach their own goals. By helping them realize their own dreams.
Lofty? Perhaps. But then again, aren’t dreams supposed to be? 🙂
